Summer Sandals

Summer Sandals

Lightweight, waterproof, affordable and bright blue.

This is the summer of the colored sandal. As a staunch and unwavering believer in head-to-toe black, I’ve found myself unexpectedly drawn to bright, poppy saturated colors and my latest purchase was just that. I’ve been long lusting for a pair of lightweight Arizona EVA (lightweight synthetic material) Birkenstocks. Not really to lounge by the pool or splash in the ocean - since I’m doing neither this summer, but rather a simple versatile sandal for the season. While I don’t have particularly large nor wide feet, I’ve previously struggled to find an Arizona that felt like it fit my foot properly. When I found the vibrant nearly neon blue style that I wanted I took a chance and ordered the narrow style in hopes an adjustable strap would allow me enough leeway to make things work. As a happy accident this turned out to be the best fit for my foot and lifestyle. I’m still slowly recovering from an ACL repair and my Orthopod strongly (as specifically) warned me against ill-fitting floppy Birkenstocks as to not catch a toe and trip - undoing all his hard work, but these have proved to be an easy slip on solution that doesn’t fall off and hugs my foot perfectly.

After missing out on last summer’s EVA Madrid in white, I was determined not to make the same mistake twice. I found these Arizona sandals in narrow in Scuba Blue and it’s the summer sandal of my dreams. Ringing in well under $50, I found the 8-8.5 Narrow Women’s to be the perfect shoe to satisfy all my needs. I typically wear an 8.5 or a 38.5 in shoes and in the past have tried Arizonas in 38 to be right in length but uncomfortably wide and roomy, in these I’ve been wearing a 39 narrow and they’re perfect. These are still Birks which run large so I recommend taking a half size down from your usual.

I’ve heard from a few people Amazon is showing these as a navy blue sandal in the hover state when Scuba Blue is selected. I’m not sure why this is but Scuba Blue is definitively the bright blue color shown here, ignore the navy blue photo and trust in the name!
